Finding the right door for you: A series in finding the perfect door for your home – Part 1

Welcome to the first part of our exciting new series of blogs designed to make the decision process for your garage door that much easier.

The first door type that we are going to explore are sectional overhead doors. Known as sectional doors due to their construction, being made up of different sections which open vertically. They then run along tracks parallel to the ceiling.

Most of our domestic sectional doors are supplied by Hormann and are made up of 42mm thick foam filled insulated steel panels. Sectional doors are built to maintain a constant temperature within the garage, they are fully sealed and have an extra deep rubber seal that travels along the bottom panel. The majority of sectional doors are made from galvanised steel, making them incredibly strong and durable.

Sectional doors are also brilliant when it comes to space saving. This is because they open and close vertically meaning you can utilise all the space around the opening. They are also a brilliant solution for those with short drives as you can park your car right up against the garage door and still open it with no problem. A sectional door can also offer you full drive-through width by fitting the guides fully behind any brickwork opening due to the vertical opening.

Sectional doors can be both manual and electric although electrical is most popular. The doors work on a spring system. This provides a smooth operation which is particularly useful for larger doors. Sectional doors come with many safety features. Features include anti entrapment design between panels to prevent finger trapping. Hormann electric sectional doors also come with an automatic safety cut-out system. This system ensures that should your door encounter an obstacle the motor will cut out ensuring your safety and preventing any damage.

Hormann Sectional Doors are one of Europe’s leaders. The Hormann Sectionals come in Traffic White with a woodgrain finish as standard but you can upgrade to a further 15 colours for an extra charge. You can also have a further upgrade where by you can have a silkgrain finish or a Decograin finish. Decograin is a natural looking timber effect design with various colours and designs such as Golden Oak and Rosewood. There is also an anthracite grey metallic effect design (Titan Metallic) which is very popular at the moment.

Sectional doors come in a variety of different panel designs such as S-panelled, D-ribbed and T-ribbed. For more information on these and many more please see the Hormann website or the Hormann Sectional doors brochure.

Hormann offer timber Sectional doors, these are made from a choice of two timbers; Nordic Pine and Hemlock. The timber is impregnated at the factory in order to protect the wood. You can also choose from eight wood preservatives in different colours and finishes. Like steel sectional doors, timber doors also come in a variety of different designs.

Hormann also have a great range of additional extras, the sky really is simply the limit. From inset windows to decorative strips you can create a door that is truly unique.
